Ms. Kumar’s practice focuses on representing insureds in complex insurance recovery matters. She has handled disputes involving insurance coverage for, among other things, environmental and pollution claims and losses; earthquakes, fires, floods and other natural disaster losses; business interruption and extra expense claims; crime losses; directors and officers liabilities; employment, discrimination, and harassment claims; errors and omissions/professional liability claims; advertising liabilities; product liability claims; and utility claims and losses. She also advises insureds regarding risk management concerns, insurance program audits, insurance policy reviews, and policy placement/renewal negotiations.

Prior to forming Kumar & Gerchick, Ms. Kumar was a member of the Insurance Recovery Group at the international law firm Howrey Simon Arnold & White LLP and, prior to that, the Insurance Coverage Group at boutique entertainment and insurance coverage law firm Troop Steuber Pasich Reddick & Tobey LLP. She received her Juris Doctor from UC Davis School of Law, where she was a member ofthe National Trial Team and the Law Review. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Occidental College, where she received the Benjamin H. Culley Phi Beta Kappa Award. Ms. Kumar was admitted to the California State Bar in 1992.

Her professional associations have included serving as a Volunteer Attorney for the Alliance for Children’s Rights and memberships in various insurance and litigation groups. She joined the National Association of Women Business Owners — Orange County Chapter in 2013 and served on the NAWBO-OC Board of Directors from 2014 - 2020. Ms. Kumar also has written articles and spoken on insurance coverage and litigation topics including:

Mr. Gerchick also represents policyholders in connection with a wide range of insurance coverage matters and insurance policies such as commercial property, crime, general liability, excess and umbrella liability, directors and officers liability, employment practices liability, fiduciary liability, professional liability, products liability, garage liability, pollution, workers compensation, homeowners, auto and life insurance policies. He worked for several years at the global law firm Latham & Watkins before forming Kumar & Gerchick. As a member of Latham’s Litigation Department and its Interdepartmental Insurance Practice Group, he represented a broad array of companies in connection with insurance and business litigation matters. Prior to Latham, Mr. Gerchick worked at prominent international law firms Hughes, Hubbard & Reed and Jones Day.

Mr. Gerchick obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law in 1994. While at UCLA, he served as an editor of the Law Review, authored an extensive Law Review article, and interned for United States District Court Judge David Levi. Mr. Gerchick graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, with honors in economics from Occidental College in 1991. He also was selected for membership in Phi Beta Kappa.

Mr. Gerchick served multiple terms as a member of the Insurance Law Committee of the California State Bar’s Business Law Section. He also has written several articles and spoken on insurance and litigation topics such as the following:
